With his signature Gibson SG and screaming Marshall stacks, Young provides rock solid rhythm guitar parts, infectious riffs, and blistering guitar solos that are both technically challenging and highly melodic. His influences were American blues and rock & roll guitarists like Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry, and also the British rockers such as the Rolling Stones (Keith Richards), The Who and the Beatles (let us just mention here that we have an entire curriculum based on learning rock guitar, a rock rhythm and rock solo course. learn more here). AC/DC is known for their huge power chord electric guitar roar and throat-shredding vocals. After relocating to England in the 1970s, AC/DC toured extensively, performing along side groups such as Van Halen, Boston, Alice Cooper, Rush, Aerosmith, The Doobie Brothers and The Who. According to the Recording Industry Association of America AC/DC has sold over 63 million recordings in America, making AC/DC the fifth-best-selling band in U.S. music history, after The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Eagles. AC/DC's thundering power-chords became one of the most influential hard rock sounds of the '70s. A reaction against the pompous art rock and lumbering stadium rock of the early '70s, Young's guitar playing though huge in sound and volume was a model of restraint, leaving plenty of space. Angus Young has always played Gibson SG electric guitars and Gibson even has a custom "Angus Young" model. However, Angus and his brother, Malcolm Young, shared a modified Fender Telecaster as a backup guitar in the early days of AC/DC. He uses Marshall 100 watt stacks during live performances to pump out his huge rock guitar sound. Born March 31, 1955 in Glasgow, Scotland, Young and his family moved to Australia in 1963. Angus and his brother, Malcolm began learning guitar and formed the hard rock band AC/DC in the early 1970's. The band would rehearse right after school so Angus would usually be in his school uniform (cap, white shirt, tie, jacket and shorts). After a suggestion from his sister, Angus began wearing the uniform during live performances. The look was a hit and became a popular AC/DC trademark. Young continues to dress in his school-boy outfit for live shows to this day as he bangs out his signature biting electric guitar sound. Do you want to learn to play guitar?
